KUWAIT CITY, Jan 27: After a long wait, Kuwait is finally entering the era of smart meters, reports Al-Qabas daily. With the completion of installation of 5,000 meters on experimental basis, the ministry will soon issue an order for operating these meters during the National Days. Central Tenders Committee (CTC) will initially release the tender for installation of 300,000 smart meters in order for companies to bid for it. Kuwait will need a total of 700,000 smart meters. Smart meters are beneficial to consumers — Tepco. KUALA LUMPUR: A subsidiary of Tokyo Electric Power Co (Tepco) says it did not experience any major issue in deploying smart meters in Japan, adding that they have actually proved to be beneficial to customers. Smart meters allow customers to have real-time data about their power consumption, and thus allow them to make informed choices about energy usage. Dr Hiroshi Okamoto, executive vice-president at Tepco Power Grid Inc, said the power generation and distribution firm has successfully installed 17 million smart meters for its residential customers. Nepal   Nepali telecom – Nepal Electricity Authority has started implementing Smart Electricity meters in Kathmandu. The implementation comes into effect as a part of a project called Kathmandu Valley Smart metering project (KVSM). Now, NEA will put smart electricity meter for the new electrification request. Government receives 3 billion for frequency fees. The Government of Nepal has collected more than 3 billion rupees from the telecom operators in the name of frequency fees, for the year 2074/75. The sum is collected from 5 telcos namely, Ntc, Ncell, Smart, UTL, STM telecom, through regulator NTA.
Out of all five, Ncell pays the highest amount of Rs 1.49 billion which is Rs 0.19 billion more than last year. Ntc pays Rs 1.21 billion which is only Rs 0.1 billion more than last years sum. Similarly, UTL pays Rs 0.2 billion, Smart Telecom pays Rs 0.19 billion and STM telecom pays Rs 584 million for last FY. Nigeria   Crazy bills: Ikeja Electric begins 85,000 smart meters’ roll out. Ikeja Electric (IE) Plc., yesterday said it had commenced the roll-out of 85,000 meters to cover residential customers across its six business units in its first batch of renewed metering drive. Norway  Norwegian electricity customers must pay NOK 2,000 yearly for declining smart meters   NTE customers will have to pay the company NOK 2,000 each for refusing to have smart electricity meters installed, according to regional newspaper Tronder-Avisa. It said 300 customers have declined to have the devices put in their properties, citing fears of radiation.
